Generally speaking, most of the time of the drum kit you’re going to be playing a beat… and normally that will be a Straight 8’s beat. However, life gets a bit boring if all you ever is play is beats. To break things up a bit sometimes we’ll play what’s known as a ‘drum fill’.
A fill is like a little flourish as a break from the main beat, normally to lead you in to a different section of the song. We’ll start with some really simple drum fills and build up from there:
